The Contemporary Oriental Medicine Foundation Board of Directors is made up of talented, dedicated individuals, each with a commitment to enhancing and furthering the cause of healthcare in the modern world. Chosen for their unique skills, Board Members make invaluable contributions to the success and longevity of the Foundation.


Ewa Hammer, MA - President
Sarasota, Florida
A graduate of the University of Montreal and Norwich University, with a degree in Psychotherapy and Counselling, Ewa was in private practice for 15 years and taught seminars to psychologists and clinical social workers. Her business and administrative experience includes the management of a holistic medical practice, and the coordination, on a national level, of Dragon Rises Pulse Seminars.
Ewa served for many years as the Director of Dragon Rises College of Oriental Medicine in Gainesville, Florida. During her tenure , the College became licensed by the state of Florida, achieved accreditation, and obtained Federal student loans.


Mary Jo Hayes, PhD, MAOM, AP - Vice President
Gainesville, Florida
Mary Jo holds a PhD in Ecology and an MS in Physiology from the University of South Georgia, and an MED (Education) from the University of Florida. She has taught and done research  at both  institutions.
Mary Jo is also a graduate of Dragon Rises College of Oriental Medicine, where she received a Master in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine.  She has a private practice in Gainesville, Florida, and serves on the faculty of the College, where she acts as a liaison for the student body and alumni.
She is project coordinator for the COM Foundation, assists in program development, and performs other duties as requested by the President.


Katherine Sears, L.Ac. - Secretary
Washington, D.C.
Katherine attended the University of Wisconsin, the University of Missouri (BA Psychology), Washington University in St. Louis (MA Education), and the Traditional Acupuncture Institute (MA Acupuncture, 1997). She has served as a Special Education Early Childhood and Adult Teacher (1975-1988), and is now a 5 Element Acupuncturist (1997-present) and Massage Therapist (1990-present).
Katherine brings enthusiasm and commitment to Dr. Hammer's work, and has been very happy to support an organization whose mission is to preserve, protect, teach, and spread awareness of this great body of knowledge and system of healing.


Stacey Liu, Lic. Ac., Dipl. Ac. - Treasurer
Gainesville, Florida
Born and educated in Taipei, Taiwan, Stacey graduated with a bachelor’s degree in June 1984, and began her professional career as a Social Worker. Having been interested in Chinese medicine since childhood, she later attended Dragon Rises College of Oriental Medicine, from which she graduated in December 2008 with a master’s degree in Chinese Medicine. In 2009, when she travelled to China, she observed at Harbin Chinese Medical School, and in 2013, she visited the Chinese Medicine School Hospital at San Tong providence.
She currently practices in Gainesville, Florida. Stacey is a Supervisor in the Student Clinic at Dragon Rises College, and is a member of Florida Acupuncture Association (FAA). She speaks fluent Chinese, and uses her language skills to promote and introduce the Contemporary Chinese (Shen-Hammer) Pulse system to Chinese practitioner groups.



Barbara Hammer, MSTCM - Board Member
Oakland, California
Barbara holds a BA in Economics and an MA in Education from the University of Chicago. She moved to California, and graduated with a master’s degree from the Academy of Chinese Culture and Health Sciences in Oakland. She is committed to studying COM, and to helping the Foundation to preserve and promote this knowledge.
Barbara plans to move to Florida in the near future, in order to study, and work closely, with Dr. Hammer.


Jamin Nichols, AP, MAOM - Board Member
Melbourne, Florida
Jamin graduated from the Florida School of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine in 1998. He went on to receive his master's degree in 2004 from Dragon Rises College of Oriental Medicine (DRCOM), where he subsequently served as a faculty member and clinic director. Since 1998, he has trained with Dr. Leon Hammer in Contemporary Oriental Medicine, and especially in Contemporary Chinese Pulse Diagnosis. Jamin now teaches Shen-Hammer pulse seminars to Chinese medicine practitioners both nationally and internationally.
Jamin has unique experience in this field,  and a skill set that is of significant value in helping the Foundation to further the ideas and teachings of Dr. Hammer.
